Werth, Lewis on Historic Doubles Pace

June 5th, 2010 | Tags: , ,

Filed under: Blue Jays , Phillies On April 15, the Giants traded Fred Lewis to the Blue Jays for a player to be named later or cash. Two days later, Lewis made his season debut for the Blue Jays in their 12th game. Since then, he’s hit 19 doubles in 42 games, the second most in the American League for the entire season and just six shy of his career high. If Lewis doesn’t miss another game, he’s on pace for 67 doubles, which would tie the all-time record. Meanwhile in Philadelphia, Jayson Werth is also doubling at an incredible pace. He’s got 23, the most in the majors and only two shy of his career high, in 52 games. If he plays in 159 games this year like he did last year (he’s missed one game so far, so it’s possible) he’s currently on pace to hit about 70 doubles, which would make him the all-time record holder. ?
