Gretzky Endorses Former Phoenix Colleagues for NHL Awards

Filed under: Coyotes As one would expect, Wayne Gretzky has taken the high road in his views on his former team, the 46-23-6 Phoenix Coyotes. “What Phoenix has done this year, from (president) Doug Moss to (GM) Donnie Maloney and (coach) Dave Tippett, they could have a clean sweep of Executive of the Year and Coach of the Year,” Gretzky said during an appearance on “NHL Live” to promote his Fantasy Camp in Las Vegas. Gretzky coached the Coyotes for four seasons before leaving the team prior to training camp while the franchise was involved in bankruptcy proceedings. Maloney hired the experienced Tippett to run the team behind the bench and brought in a few veterans to buy more development time for the Coyotes’ top prospects. The result is that the Coyotes are the happy surprise of the NHL season, and the fans have responded. ? Permalink ?|? Email this ?|? Linking?Blogs ?|? Comments
