Nets Buy Out Rafer Alston’s Contract

Filed under: Nets , NBA Transactions From the penthouse to the outhouse … to homeless. Rafer Alston is a free man, for better or worse. The journeyman point guard agreed to a buyout with the New Jersey Nets this afternoon , ending his six-month stint with the team Orlando traded him to in the Vince Carter deal. After starting for the Magic during their NBA Finals run last season, Alston couldn’t have been happy in New Jersey, where he’s averaged his fewest minutes per game in seven years for a team that’s threatening to set the NBA’s record for fewest wins in a season. Despite questionable shot selection and declining physical tools, Alston, 33, will likely be looked at by several teams who are settling in for a second half playoff push. Top of the list includes the Miami Heat , who have looked at literally every cheap veteran point guard available for the past two years. Cleveland was also thought to be interested, but Brian Windhorst of the Plain Dealer debunked that on Twitter this afternoon . We’ll keep you posted on where Skip 2 My Lou lands. Meanwhile, the Nets have managed to clear even more space for a run at You Know Who or You Know Who Else . ? Permalink ?|? Email this ?|? Linking?Blogs ?|? Comments
