Howard, Donovan Out of FA Cup After Everton Loss
Filed under: European Soccer , Soccer Posts , US Soccer Over the last five or so years, we’ve seen the popularity of England’s Premier League explode in America. At the same time the English institution that is the FA Cup — the longest running soccer competition in the world — hasn’t exactly gained the same traction stateside. Last year Yanks had a reason to take interest in the competition when U.S. No. 1 Tim Howard helped lead Everton into the finals at Wembley Stadium, eventually falling to Chelsea 2-1 last May. Any chance for that kind of repeat performance took a hit Saturday when Everton, which now also boasts American midfielder Landon Donovan in its squad, lost 2-1 at home to Birmingham City in the fourth round of the competition. ?
