Freddie Ljungberg’s Return Could Signal Labor Progress
Filed under: MLS Seattle Sounders midfielder, Arsenal legend and part-time underwear model Freddie Ljungberg ended speculation about his immediate future on Tuesday, saying on his Web site that he plans to return to Qwest Field for the 2010 season. While it’s good news any time a high-profile player wants a second bite of MLS, this development is particularly promising since the Swede had blamed the league’s labor issues for his indecision. “I have not made any final decision about the spring as a lot depends on the outcome of the new CBA and lockout threat in MLS,” he told fans last week. The labor agreement between the league and the the MLS Players Union expires on Sunday , and even though Ljungberg took a few shots at ownership in his announcement, he confirmed he’ll be in Seattle the following day.
